What does "technology" mean? - On the one hand some think of it as is the machines and devices that prevade our lives and the remarkable guidence of interactions from management to medicine. It is part of a path towards a dream of a world in harmony. On the other hand, there are many who consider it to be responsible for social ills, evironmental disaster and countless other evils.

Of course, there is truth to both views, the same "technology" can be both "good" and "bad." The heart medicine digitalis was once used as a poison to murder people, nuclear fission can be used to generate inexpensive power or obliterate cities.

At least in part, then technology is not just the machine, management technique, process, software or whatever, but also the use to which it is put. This use can only be understood in the contest of the social world in which it is used.
