One of the discoveries of sociology that has had great impact is Mark Granovetter's discovery that professionals are more likely to get jobs through casual acquaintences (weak ties) than through close friends (strong ties). This fact has implications far beyond getting a job. Mark is a scientific advisor to Spoke and other new companies and he is coauthor of the chapter in the "Silicon Valley Edge" on Social Networks in Silicon Valley. He is currently conducting active research in several areas including social networks in Silicon Valley. Meet Mark Granovetter and discuss some of the key issues in social networks, have a great dinner meet others in the field. 2003-09-30 Don Steiny - Organizer and Moderator return to Connecting People, Organizations and Ideas
